Best Peanut Ice Cream in Udo
When it comes to ranking peanut ice cream, weโre paying attention to texture, location, staff, and of course how much it tastes like peanuts. There are plenty of places that sell peanut ice cream on Udo, but we chose businesses that are the most popular or highest rated by both Korean and foreign sources.
Jimmys Natural Ice Cream
Our first stop of the day was Jimmys Natural Ice Cream. Probably the most popular shop in Udo, Jimmys is located next to the famous Black Sand Beach. Right off the bat, Jimmyโs gets an A+ for hospitality. The eponymous Jimmy is so nice, and he spoke to us in English and Korean. We even got a selfie with him, and we chatted for a good while. They have several soft serve options, including hallabong (Jeju tangerine), but we were there for one thing only, peanut ice cream. When we took our seats on the upper floor, we realized what an amazing view this shop has overlooking the cliffs of the Black Sand Beach.

As soon as we took a bite we knew it was a top contender. Jimmys has an incredible homemade soft serve texture, with a super strong taste of peanut butter. We werenโt sure how different each place would be, but we were shocked at how unique and delicious the ice cream was. The peanuts on top added a great crunch but not a lot of salt, so this ice cream was the sweetest we tried all day. Between the amazing staff, perfect view, and top-tier ice cream, Jimmys is an easy recommendation.

HaHaHoHo
One of Udoโs hot spots is HaHaHoHo, a burger joint on the northwest of the island, not far from the port. Famous for their black pork burgers served with special toppings like Udo peanuts and Jeju garlic. HaHaHoHo can get pretty crowded in the busy seasons, so prepare for a wait. Obviously, we wouldnโt be talking about them if they didnโt serve some killer ice cream. The staff were super kind to us and helped us find nice seats, but nothing compares to our boy Jimmy.

This ice cream is a total 180 from Jimmys. Instead of being soft serve ice cream, it is gelato. The base does not have a strong peanut flavor, but it is actually pretty mild. Instead, HaHaHoHo relies on a generous coating of crunchy peanut dust and chunks. The texture is absolutely incredible, with the thick chewy texture of a good gelato. Although the ice cream mostly tastes like vanilla, the peanut dust adds the perfect amount of peanut-y goodness, with a nice bit of salt pushing it over the edge. The view isnโt anything special, but we love the vibe of HaHaHoHo, making it a top choice for us.

Dalkomajae

Our third stop of the day was Dalkomajae (๋ฌ์ฝค์์ฌ), a small cafe next to Hagosudong Beach, Udoโs most popular bathing beach. This cafe is following the recent trend of cartoon cafes, where everything is painted white with black outlines to emulate a hand-drawn comic book. Iโm not sure how well they pull it off here, but itโs still a nice vibe with a pretty good view of the beach and blue water.ย
When we received the ice cream, we instantly realized their presentation game was on point. The ice cream is soft serve, with an Udo-shaped cracker, rice cake, peanuts, and peanut dust. Definitely the most elaborately decorated ice cream we got that day. Unfortunately, the taste didnโt live up to the look. The ice cream was underwhelming, with little flavor and a bit on the icy side, making it our least favorite texture. Thankfully, the toppings really did pull it back from the brink. If youโre more interested in Instagramable vibes than taste, we can recommend Dalkomajae for that at least.

Udo Sand
Close to Dalkomajae is Udo Sand, located directly off the beach. There is another business called Udo Sand on Naver that we accidentally went to first. They also sell peanut ice cream, but they were closed that day, so we were bummed. Thankfully, this place has a very distinct vibe, so as soon as we passed by we knew we had found the right spot. Udo Sand is less of an ice cream store, and more of a bumping beach party with blasting dance music and lots of outdoor seating. The line here was the longest of the day, probably because itโs the closest place to the beach.

They also sell popular peanut beer here, but Iโll spare you the details and say it was not great with almost no peanut flavor and nowhere near worth the 9,500 won price.

Ice cream isnโt actually the main draw here; instead, they sell peanut sandwich cookies, which is what โUdo Sandโ means. These tiny cookies are super rich and buttery shortbreads, stuffed with peanut butter and either marshmallow or chocolate. The ice cream is a simple vanilla soft serve, topped with one of the famous sandwiches. At first we were confused why the ice cream was so bland, but when we took a bite of the cookie we understood. These little things are incredibly rich, almost to the point of being inedible on their own.
Paired with the ice cream they pack a huge flavor punch, making this by far the most unique offering we tried. Although were were still a bit disappointed with the simple ice cream, we loved it overall and recommend Udo Sand if you especially like crunchy cookies.
Blanc Rocher
To end our day, we strolled over to Blanc Rocher on the north side of the beach. Despite being only a minute walk away from Udo Sand, this place has a totally different vibe. Tucked on a small cliff overlooking the beach, this coffee shop has the second-best view we saw, with an awesome beach view and great indoor and outdoor seating. The inside was decorated like a classic Korean cafe, aiming for maximum vibes. If we had to choose a place to hang out for a while to escape the heat, this is definitely it.

At this point, we were getting tired of peanut ice cream, so we didnโt really want more. Thankfully we were pleasantly shocked by Blanc Rocher. This is another soft serve, but the texture is quite light in a good way. It holds its shape, but cleanly breaks in a satisfying way. The flavor was on the lighter side, but it complemented the texture of the ice cream very well. There is a peanut topping but it wasnโt too strong, making this a pretty standard but solid ice cream overall.
Final Ranking
We were totally shocked at how many ways something as simple as peanut ice cream can be prepared. Every shop had a completely different flavor and presentation, so picking our favorite was a challenge. That being said, here is our final ranking based on peanut taste, texture, vibes, and staff:
It was a close call, and honestly, our top two are interchangeable. Jimmys and HaHaHoHo are both excellent and well worth a visit for very different reasons, and if you have the time and will, we recommend both. Everything we ate was good, so if something besides our top picks are calling you don’t stress, these are the best of the best.
