Postcard Cabins Asheboro
Postcard Cabins
After some research and watching a few YouTube videos, we landed on glamping as the perfect solution. I had never been camping before and wasn’t really the outdoorsy type, but Michael had grown up with it. Glamping felt like the ideal middle ground, comfortable for me and still close to nature for him.

We discovered Postcard Cabins, which have cozy, thoughtfully designed sites all across the country. Since we also wanted to explore a new state, we chose Asheboro, North Carolina. We love road trips, so we decided to drive. Having a car made it easier to explore the area, especially since most glamping sites are a bit removed from larger cities.

Postcard Cabins encourages guests to slow down, unplug, and enjoy the stillness of nature. It was exactly what we needed. We stayed for two nights, just enough time to relax and reconnect, especially since we were doing long distance at the time. Each cabin is named after a staff member’s grandparent, which I thought was a really sweet touch; ours was named Frances. The cabin had everything we needed: a small kitchen with a stove, fridge, and utensils, a comfortable bed, a modern bathroom, and a fire pit outside. It felt homey and peaceful without sacrificing any comfort.

One of our favorite parts was just being able to slow down. We had long conversations, napped, played instruments, and made simple, cozy meals together. Breakfasts inside were quiet and slow, and dinners outside under the stars were pure magic.

Postcard Cabins offers accommodations for one to four people, and they’re pet-friendly as well. They even include a mini s’mores kit in each cabin, which was such a fun little detail. Sitting by the fire, roasting marshmallows, and just soaking in the calm made it feel extra special. If you’re looking for a quiet escape to reconnect with yourself or someone you love, this is definitely a great option.
Bojangles

On our way to Postcard Cabins, we decided to try North Carolina’s version of KFC: Bojangles. This is a fast food chain that started in Charlotte, North Carolina. We ordered the chicken tenders, mashed potatoes with gravy, and macaroni and cheese. For dessert, we tried their Bo-Berry Biscuit, which is a blueberry biscuit topped with icing.

We also picked up another North Carolina original called Cheerwine. Despite the name, it has no alcohol. It is a soda with a bold black cherry flavor, and honestly, I really enjoyed it. I tend to like those kinds of flavors in soda. As for the food, it was fine. Nothing amazing, just your typical American fast food. We ate everything, but taste-wise, it was definitely C tier. What made it worth trying was the fact that it started in North Carolina.
Disc Golf
Michael really loves disc golf, but I had only played a few times. Since it’s his favorite outdoor activity, it’s a great fit for COVID. Luckily, North Carolina has a lot of disc golf courses, with one right around the corner from our cabin. We went to Potter’s Grove Disc Golf Course and played a full round, basking in the sunlight. We left the Midwest during a blizzard, so feeling the light jacket weather was a breath of fresh air. I don’t know much about disc golf, so I assume the course was good, but for us, we just wanted a reason to have a nice walk in a park and enjoy the weather in a COVID-safe way.

North Carolina Zoo
What could be better social distancing than visiting an outdoor zoo in the winter? Luckily for us, it was a warm day, so it felt like a crisp fall afternoon. The North Carolina Zoo is the world’s largest natural habitat zoo. Their zoo focuses on North American and African exhibits. It’s a really large complex that you can spend hours exploring. They have lots of attractions like giraffe feeding, but those are usually offered only in the summer months.

Even though there are only two main exhibits, the zoo takes a long time to wander due to its incredible size. It’s really nice to see a zoo with so much open space for animals to roam, it made me realize how cramped some zoos can be. If I were a giraffe with hundreds of acres to run around, I think I’d be happy. Because it’s located in a hilly forest, it’s uniquely blended into nature, which was a great relief from the typical sea of colorful pavement at most major zoos. Overall, the North Carolina Zoo was a great place for COVID, and probably an even better place normally.

The Table
If you’ve read many of our blogs, you know specialty coffee is a must. Luckily, this eatery doesn’t just serve amazing coffee, they also offer incredible food. I found The Table after an extensive Google search, and I absolutely loved the atmosphere and the chance to support a local spot.

Michael ordered a shot of espresso and a latte, and I ordered a mango smoothie. For lunch, Michael chose the signature pimento cheese sandwich, and a side of pasta salad. I got a beef sandwich with roasted peppers and onions on ciabatta, with herbed fries. Let me tell you, that was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life. It was literally dripping with flavor, and the ciabatta soaked up all the delicious beef juices. Michael devoured his sandwich, too. The sourdough and aged cheese were a perfect match that truly danced on his taste buds. Of course their coffee was a 10/10 as well.

You already know we had to get dessert. All their desserts are homemade right in their kitchen. We tried the lemon pie, and oh my goodness, lemon pie is hands down my favorite, and this one reminded me exactly why. It had just the right hit of tang followed by a full burst of flavor.

The Table is a truly great restaurant. They use local ingredients, even in their burgers, and it’s also a woman-run business, which I love supporting. The interior and exterior match the food perfectly. There are lots of windows that really brighten the space, and the simple aesthetic beautifully complements the colorful dishes. We sat outside since the weather was surprisingly warm for winter. Great food, lovely people, and an inviting atmosphere made it an experience to remember.

Final Thoughts
Despite the chaos of the first COVID winter, we were so lucky to have an amazing experience in Asheboro. The calm of the rolling hills and woods made Postcards Cabins so beautiful. For such a small town Asheboro had a lot to offer, and provided the perfect warm getaway we needed from the brutal winter storm.
