Shanghai Disney Snacks
Pawpsicle
Located at: Zootopia Market

The first of our Shanghai Disney snacks was the famous Pawpsicle from Zootopia. If you’ve seen the movie, you know how iconic this bright red pop is. This version is hawthorn flavor, which isn’t common in the United States. The best way I can describe the taste is a more tart raspberry, with a bit of a sweet aftertaste. We both thought this was extra delicious, especially since it was already getting so hot at 9 am. They do not skimp on the fruit here either, it tasted like it was pure frozen fruit puree. We highly recommend this treat!

The Big Donut
Located at: Jumbeaux’s Cafe
Sticking with Zootopia, you may remember the scene where a massive donut sign falls on the hamsters and gerbils. Of course, at a human scale, it’s not life-threatening, but it’s still huge! We’ve had donuts from Disney before, and let’s just say we had low expectations. It’s a simple donut with a chocolate coating. Unfortunately, we were right to be skeptical. It’s very cute, but it’s not tasty. The dough is dry and flavorless, and the chocolate is waxy. Honestly, it’s just way too much donut! Get a donut from 7/11 and save the money, unless you need the Instagram pic.

Chocolate Marshmallow “Popsicle”
Located at: Jumbeaux’s Cafe

Last up for Zootopia is the large popsicle. In the movie, this is melted down into the pawpsicles, but in real life it’s made of marshmallows coated in chocolate. We thought we knew what it would taste like, but it was surprisingly unique! The outside is just chocolate, but the inside is slightly sour, and has little crunchy balls of flavor. The marshmallow is denser than normal marshmallows, giving it an interesting texture. It is also served slightly chilled. Like the donut, it’s far too big to eat alone, you’ll need at least 3-4 hungry people, but it’s shockingly not bad, and we enjoyed it quite a bit.
Iron Armour Black Truffle Wagyu Burger
Located at: Stargrazer Grill

Disney is not known for food. No matter what park you go to, you aren’t expecting a world-class meal. We were even more skeptical about this burger because amusement park burgers are usually overpriced, dry, and taste boring. We saw so many people posing about it so we had to give it a taste. Miraculously, this was one of the best burgers I’ve had in Asia. The patty was cooked well and juicy, the toppings were unique, and it was pretty large too. Paired with pretty decent fries, we actually enjoyed this far more than we expected. I would recommend going out of your way to try out the Stargrazer Grill.

Pineapple Shaved Ice
Located at: Snackin Kraken

We didn’t plan on eating this, but as we passed the Snackin Kraken, we knew we had to get it. It was the middle of the day and we were dying from the sun, so pineapple shaved ice sounded perfect. It isn’t like American shaved ice, with slightly larger chunks of ice and a more natural pineapple taste. But it was very delicious and most importantly very refreshing. It’s an easy item to get so we were happy to go out of our way to grab one.

Tigger Tail
Located at: Merlin’s Magic Recipe

Towards the end of the day, we were getting hungry again. The last of the Shanghai Disney Snacks we wanted to try was the Tigger Tail. There were several Winnie the Pooh-themed snacks, but this one caught our eye because of the braised pork. We also thought pineapple was a strange topping, but at this point, we weren’t questioning the abundance of pineapple in the park. The sandwich is served hot, and honestly it’s pretty great. The bread is chewy and the meat was so savory. It’s always hot outside so it’s hard to get yourself to eat a steaming hot sandwich, but we enjoyed it anyways.
Final Thoughts
Shanghai’s snacks were better than expected but due to the constant appearance of pineapple it was quite repetitive. If you are looking for a savory treat there were definitely some items that were pretty appetizing. Out of all the Disney parks in Asia, Disney Sea has our favorite snacks but Shanghai is a close second.
