Universal Studios Japan Snacks

Universal Studios Japan in Osaka is known for its excellent theming, variety of franchises, and thrilling rides. If you thought the park was well themed wait until you see their snacks! From Butterbeer to Mario Caps, here are our favorite snacks at USJ.

Mario’s Cap Strawberry Shortcake

Located at: Schwab’s Pharmacy

The first area of the park is Hollywood, where you’ll find Schwab’s Pharmacy. This location has some of the most iconic Universal Studios Japan snacks. This shop offers Mario-themed foods including Fruity Italian Cream Sodas, Pancake Sandwiches, and Parfait Drinks. We knew Universal Studio Japan was going to have the best snacks as soon as we walked in.

We started off with Mario’s Cap Strawberry Shortcake. You can also get Luigi-themed with grape instead of strawberry. It has a soft fluffy pancake shell filled with whipped cream and strawberries. At the bottom of the pancake, you are surprised by the tasty goodness of custard and strawberry jam. This was our first treat and man, did we start off with a banger!

Tip: You are not allowed to eat inside of Schwab’s Pharmacy but you can take cute photos at the table inside with your food.

Princess Peach’s Peach Soda

Located at: Schwab’s Pharmacy

Princess Peach is one of my favorite Mario characters. Naturally I ordered Princess Peach’s Peach Soda, a bit of a tongue twister. It’s an Italian cream soda with peach syrup, vanilla ice cream, small peach cubes, and popping boba. Don’t forget to give it a stir!

I found it quite sweet, refreshing, and creamy, especially with the ice cream mixed in. If you have a sweet tooth this is definitely the treat for you. The straw is an added bonus of cuteness decorated with Princess Peach’s crown.

Smoked Chicken

Located at: Battery Park Snacks

Theme parks usually have turkey legs, but USJ offers smoked chicken legs. The chicken leg is tender and juicy making it the perfect savory snack. We thought they made the right call serving chicken instead of turkey because it’s more moist. They serve this chicken leg in Amity Village as well, however, this stand had beer which goes together well. We got a cup of non-alcoholic beer which is the perfect pairing with the smoky flavor.

Butterbeer

Located at: Butterbeer cart at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

When you think Harry Potter and theme parks the first thing that comes to my mind is Butterbeer. I’ve heard about it my whole life, and now I’ve finally had it! It can come hot and cold, but of course we ordered cold. We enjoyed the buttery goodness of the rich caramel-y cream soda topped with butterscotch cream.

You know it was good because we couldn’t split just one. I definitely recommend once you get into The Wizarding World the Butterbeer cart should be your first stop. Don’t worry about finding it, the massive red barrel in the street is obvious.

Green Shell Calzone Filled with Yakisoba & Cheese

Located at: Yoshi’s Snack Island

As you enter Nintendo World there are so many cute snacks to try. We went towards the back of the area and arrived at Yoshi’s Snack Island. Their main snack is the Green Shell Calzone filled with Yakisoba and Cheese. When I first saw it, I wasn’t super excited, but when I bit in my opinion was changed. As your teeth sink in to the soft shell you discover cheesy goodness with noodles! It has a great harmony of bread, cheese, and noodles.

Yoshi’s Mango Lassi

Located at: Yoshi’s Snack Island

To compliment your Green Shell Calzone I recommend getting a lassi at Yoshi’s Snack Island. They offer strawberry, mango, and melon. We decided to go with mango because that’s one of my favorite fruits. The lassi was rich, thick, and creamy and it did not disappoint. Don’t forget to give it a good mix before you try!

Caramel Peach Popcorn

Located at: Pit Stop Popcorn

Next to Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge is Pit Stop Popcorn. There you can buy the iconic Super Star and Mario Kart popcorn buckets. We got the Super Star popcorn bucket because it lights up and it’s super cute. They offer two flavors of popcorn: mushroom cream and caramel peach. Because of my sweet tooth, I choose caramel peach. Surprisingly, I wasn’t blown away by this one. It was just caramel popcorn with some peach flavoring. But let’s be honest, you’re here for the bucket, not the popcorn itself.

Minion Santa Crab Cream Bun

Located at: Minion Happy Kitchen

On our way out of the park, we squeezed in one last snack. Our final snack was the cutest minion Santa crab cream bun. If you have had crab rangoon it has a very similar filling but with a soft bun on the outside. Be careful when eating it because it is very hot at first. I enjoyed the crab and cream cheese mixture so much, I really wanted more. It was the perfect finale for Universal Studios.

Final Thoughts

I’ve visited many amusement parks in Asia, however, Japan’s amusement parks still have my favorite foods I have tried. I admired Universal Studios Japan’s snacks as the food presentation was immaculate but the taste was also good, especially for amusement parks. Happy eating!
